Base pay range

$30.00/hr – $35.00/hr

The Madison Area YMCA is seeking a part‑time Bus Driver to join our team. This role is responsible for providing safe, reliable transportation for children to and from program sites while creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

Program Routes Include:

  • Transporting elementary school children from Madison, Chatham, and Florham Park schools to our programs.
  • Driving preschool children from our Child Care Center to the Family Center for enrichment programs.

Schedule

  • Monday‑Friday, 2:00‑4:00 PM
  • Additional hours may be available in other YMCA departments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the bus safely in compliance with YMCA policies and state laws.
  • Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip checks, record mileage, gas levels, and maintenance.
  • Keep the bus clean and stocked with first aid supplies.
  • Ensure safety rules are followed at all times.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Note:

    Bus Drivers are never left alone with children.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of professional bus driving experience.
  • Valid Class B license with P & S endorsements.
  • Knowledge of passenger vehicle regulations.
  • Must pass criminal background and drug screening.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications (required within 30 days of hire).
  • Ability to engage positively with children, staff, and families.

Working Conditions

  • Afternoon hours with potential flexibility.
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Must be able to act quickly in emergencies and work in varied weather conditions.

This includes attending required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors, and adhering to procedures that minimize risk. Supervisors are also responsible for providing oversight, feedback, and accountability to ensure staff and volunteers follow these standards.
