Position Summary: The Donations Transport Driver is responsible for coordinating, transporting, and performing pickups of donated goods from local businesses and community partners. This position plays a key role in moving donated goods into Goodwill of Central Iowa’s (GCI’s) retail operations by regularly operating various vehicles including straight trucks, cargo vans, and/or trucks with trailers and coordinating communication between Goodwill and community partner donors.

Essential Functions

  • Implement and coordinate donation pick-ups and deliveries between local businesses and community partners in partnership with Retail Operations Leadership using GCI’s values of love, kindness, and respect.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and communicate timing and method of donation pick-up appointments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with Retail Operations Leadership to plan and coordinate transportation within donation acquisition initiatives.
  • Regularly and safely operate various vehicles including a straight truck, van, or truck with 20’+ trailer to pickup donated goods and deliver them to GCI Headquarters or Retail stores.
  • Load and unload donated goods into or from trucks or cargo vans using equipment such as a pallet jack, forklift, lift, wheeled tubs, a dolly, or other similar equipment.
  • Collaborate with Marketing team and Retail Operations team to implement donation pick-ups at events, community partners, and local businesses.
  • Track and report donations metrics, number of pickups, and scheduling to inform department planning to support donations strategies.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to coordinate or plan for potential previews of larger pickups to determine the facilitation process and resources that will be needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to donors, vendors, and internal customers.
  • Assist with donation coordination initiatives to support maintaining and increasing GCI’s market share.
  • Regularly perform safety inspections of equipment and processes and report any known issues to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to operate a straight truck, cargo van, truck with 20’+ trailer, forklift, and other related equipment.
  • Ability to demonstrate driving abilities in a driver road test.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams familiar with using technology or systems for data entry and data tracking.
  • Communicates effectively in written and verbal formats.
  • Multi-task effectively; be able to adjust to frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events; be flexible and/or adaptable as workload, weather, or schedules change.
  • Demonstrates high level of organization and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Access to reliable transportation for regular participation in work and travel within our central Iowa territory stores.
  • Possession of a valid Iowa Driver’s License, a good driving record, and able to provide proof of personal vehicle insurance with a minimum of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident auto insurance liability coverage.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and dependent adult and child abuse background check.

Required Education And Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or its equivalent, or a minimum of 2 years of any combination of military service, high school, or related full-time paid employment.
  • Experience in transportation coordination and customer service.
  • Goodwill experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to carry or lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to push or pull up to 100 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to tolerate variations in work environment temperature inside and outside.
  • Ability to remain mobile for long periods of time onsite at GCI or in the community.
  • Ability to navigate throughout the retail stores, warehouse, headquarters, and community partner locations.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment such as a vehicle, truck, trailer pulled behind a truck, straight truck, and/or forklift.
  • Ability to remain stationary to perform computer work or driving for extended periods of time.
