We are looking for a reliable and safety-conscious Driver/Assistant Support Worker to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of service users, staff, and equipment, while maintaining high standards of care and compliance with health and safety regulations.
Driving is a key part of this position, and you will be responsible for vehicle checks, cleanliness, and safe operation in all weather conditions. You will also provide occasional support within the day care service when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and report defects in line with Freight Transport Association standards.
- Ensure vehicles are clean, refuelled, and meet infection control requirements.
- Drive safely and confidently in rural and adverse weather conditions, adhering to licence requirements.
- Complete mandatory training for wheelchair tie-down and occupant restraint systems (WTORS) and follow safety regulations when using tail lifts.
- Transport service users, including those with reduced mobility, ensuring appropriate restraints and safe assistance.
- Collect and deliver items as requested by services.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logs, service records, and usage statistics.
- Administer First Aid when required (training provided).
- Support day care activities and assist service users when staff shortages occur (e.g., serving meals, helping with activities, personal care under guidance).
- Adhere to Health & Safety, infection control, and moving & handling procedures.
- Conduct fire alarm tests and audits as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow security procedures for premises and equipment.
What We’re Looking For
- Full, clean driving licence and confidence driving in rural and challenging conditions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to providing a high standard of care and safety.
- Flexibility to assist with day care activities when needed.

- Experience in a care or transport role.
- First Aid training (or willingness to undertake).

Additional Information For Candidates
- Effective from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours. Part-time hours will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. There will be an increase in the hourly rate to ensure that pay remains unaffected.
