Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and safety‑focused CDL Driver to support the daily operations of chemical distribution. This role involves the safe and efficient operation of Class8 tractors and related equipment to transport hazardous and non‑hazardous materials, including both liquid and dry products.
Responsibilities
- Drive a power unit (Class8 tractors and lower) for chemical distribution.
- Transport HAZMAT and non‑hazardous materials (liquid and dry).
- Conduct movements to satisfy outside delivery to customers and vendors, in‑plant spotting, and inter‑company branch transfers.
- Deliver bulk liquids and solids; load and unload materials from trailers using pumps, air, and similar equipment; secure and record proper transfer of product.
- Deliver packaged materials in drums, IBCs, or other containers in liquid form.
- Handle palletized material (dry or liquid) and supersacks of product.
- Manage the entire process, including transport, securement after completion, and execution of all applicable paperwork.
- Follow DOT, OSHA, and site‑specific rules and regulations: safety, packaging, labeling, marking, loading/unloading, placarding, pre‑inspection, daily logs, and repair reporting.
- Follow Brenntag operating procedures and work instructions.
- Operate pallet jacks (electric or manual) and, when required, forklift and accessories.
- Use dock locks, dock levelers, and related equipment for delivery or pickup of material.
- Maintain all assigned equipment and technology, including ELDs, virtual gateways, camera systems, and tracking units.
- Keep the equipment in good working order and perform good housekeeping.
- Communicate with supervisors and dispatchers to receive and confirm delivery instructions.
- Support a culture of “Zero Accidents, Zero Injuries” through continuous safety training and use of technology.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or US military experience.
- Driver qualifications (DQ):
Class “A” CDL with Tanker, Bulk, and/or Hazmat endorsement as required; current DOT medical card; no facial hair conflicting with respirator if PFT required; current TWIC card or proof of application if location requires; ability to operate manual transmission. - Preferred experience:
at least 1 year liquid bulk hauling or at least 3 years commercial truck driving; certification from an Accredited Commercial Driving Academy.
- Willingness to work overtime or weekends as needed.
- Comfortable with general warehouse duties and use of applicable equipment.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Complete all required training and observe, follow, and enforce company policies.
- Represent the company professionally at all times.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and conduct simple instructions in English and write simple correspondence.
- Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure.
- Proficiency in technology‑based devices such as smartphones, tablets, and transportation platforms (e.g., Samsara).
- Willingness to operate power units equipped with advanced camera and safety systems for compliance.
- Residence within sixty miles of the work area; no lodging provided.
- Pass a pre‑employment drug screen, background check, and E‑Verify check.
Physical Requirements
- Pass a pre‑employment DOT fit‑for‑duty exam.
- Be able to sit and drive for long hours.
- Step into and out of equipment safely.
- Stage, move, set up, operate, and break down equipment while performing loading or delivery tasks.
- Lift up to 75 lbs; frequently push, pull, or move up to 150 lbs.
- Wear a respirator (if required) and all other personal protective equipment.
- Load and unload hazardous material.
- Climb ladders as needed.
