Job Responsibilities
Serves as crew leader/assistant foreman of the Light Vegetation Crew performing various duties related to highway maintenance. Supports foreman in compilation of daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports and documents, and training subordinates on the operation of various maintenance equipment. Operates heavy motorized equipment such as, but not limited to Backhoe, Dozier, Crawler, Excavator, Front End Loader, Lowboy Truck, Motor Grader, Road Patcher, Truck Mounted, Slope Mower, and Tractor with Ditcher.
Instructs crew members daily in safety practices. This includes, but is not limited to Flagging Operations, PPE, Vehicle Safety, CDL inspections, Hazardous Material, Waste, Etc. Assists with crew operations by entering daily work into HMMS, assigning daily tasks and crew assignments assisting with the compilation of daily, weekly, and annual reports and documents, and training subordinates on the operation of various maintenance equipment.
Assists Crew Foreman as needed. Assists with on call operations for after hour emergencies, and other emergency and inclement weather operations to include Snow and Ice Plan and Hurricane Lane Reversal Plan. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement:
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
