Bus AideJob Goal(s)

To transport students safely and efficiently to and from school. To provide a safe and clean learning environment enabling the students to take full advantage of the District’s total educational program. To respect the District and its personnel and represent it with the utmost professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Must have passed a physical exam and comply with stipulations recommended by the school’s examining physician.
  • Prior experience in school transportation or working with special needs students is preferred.
  • The ability to deal and interact with the general public and school staff is required.
  • Ability to handle and cope with emotional behavior and physical handicapping problems afflicting special education students is required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others; be a team player.
  • Job requires physical ability to lift 40 lbs, stand, climb stairs and ladders, lift, push, pull, and bend for extended periods.

Certifications

  • Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Assist students to their assigned seats.
  • Assist bus driver with any specialized equipment, e.g., hydraulic wheelchair rams, harnesses, seat belts, canes, etc.
  • Be familiar with radio communication procedures to assist bus drivers in an emergency.
  • Assist bus drivers and students in performing required emergency evacuation drills.
  • Assist bus driver in the seating arrangement.
  • Meet with staff and/or parents to discuss transportation issues related to specific students.
  • Attend and complete all required training sessions.
  • Perform any other job duties as they occur and as requested by the Director or designee.

Education

    Experience

    • Experience working with students and/or transportation preferred.
