Position Summary
A Box Truck Driver operates a commercial vehicle (typically under 26,000 lbs, often non-CDL) to transport goods, ensuring safe, timely, local or regional deliveries. Key duties include loading/unloading cargo, securing items, performing pre/post-trip vehicle inspections, maintaining logs, and providing professional customer service.
Requirements
- Licensure: Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Experience: Previous experience driving box trucks or delivery vehicles is usually preferred.
- Physical Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy, sometimes bulky, items.
- Time Management: Ability to adhere to strict delivery schedules.
- Communication: Effective communication skills for coordination with dispatchers and customers.
Essential Functions
- Delivery & Logistics: Safely transporting, picking up, and delivering goods according to scheduled routes.
- Loading/Unloading: Using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual labor to load and unload cargo, ensuring it is properly secured to prevent damage.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Performing daily inspections (fluids, tires, brakes) and reporting mechanical issues.
- Documentation: Keeping accurate logs, obtaining customer signatures, and recording delivery information.
- Compliance: Adhering to all traffic laws and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
