About our Department:
The goal of the Public Transit Department is to provide adequate and efficient community transportation services for the general public. The City of Huntsville’s 19 Access vehicles are radio dispatched and ADA accessible. Access is a specialized, door-to-door, demand-response paratransit service.
Transit Maintenance Technician I Position at a Glance:
This is administrative and specialized work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles used in the Public Transit Department. Work involves responsibility for developing and implementing routine vehicle maintenance, repair and inspection programs to ensure that public transit vehicles receive regular preventive maintenance as prescribed by the manufacture and that repairs are scheduled and completed in a timely manner. Work also involves inspecting licensed taxicabs and limousines operating in the city to ensure compliance with city ordinances regulating such vehicles.
Qualifications and Necessary
Special Requirements :
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and considerable experience in vehicle maintenance and repair or fleet management; or any combination of education, training and experience.
Valid driver’s license.
Valid Class B Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement desired
Must pass the written portion of the CDL, Class B Passenger Endorsement test within six (6) months of hire and/or promotion date. Must pass the driving test and obtain a valid CDL, Class B Endorsement within eleven (11) months of hire and/or promotion date.
