The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is actively seeking a Transportation Supervisor.

This is technical work at the supervisory level in scheduling, coordinating, and expediting the transportation for clients of federal grant programs. Work requires knowledge of the methods, standards, regulations and procedures for dispatching drivers, vehicle and equipment operation, preventive maintenance service requirements, and the use of supervisory practices and techniques. Contacts require skills in understanding and influencing people and are important in supervising the staff and in resolving customer service related problems.
The work is performed following substantially diversified procedures and specialized standards and involves differing situations requiring use of judgment. The work is performed in both a garage shop and field environment, where the risks and hazards are minimal, known, predictable and controllable. The work is performed under general supervision, where the work is subject to established procedures, practices, precedents, methods, and techniques.
The worker plans and organizes the work, determines priorities, and the work is reviewed, usually after the fact, in terms of quality, volume, timeliness and adherence to established methods, standards and policies. Physical demands consist of visually inspecting vehicles and associated equipment; sitting, standing or walking for extended periods; and occasionally lifting, carrying and rearranging furnishings, displays, supplies and equipment weighing less than 50 pounds.
Operates a bus or other multi-passenger vehicle, two-way radio and standard office equipment such as personal computer, copier and calculator.
Examples of Work
* Schedules, trains, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned employees.
* Develops standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and conformance to City rules and regulations.
* Monitors work flow for planning improvements in quantity and quality of service.
* Coordinates, inspects and expedites the day-to-day repair, servicing and testing of vehicles and associated equipment with vendors or applicable City Agencies.
* Issues vehicles and equipment.
* Operates a bus or other multi-passenger vehicle as needed.
* Uses Drive Cam program to monitor, coach and counsel driver safety.
* Compiles, prepares and maintains reports and records on performance, equipment maintenance, assignment, fuel consumption and related activities.
* Directs the operation of a base radio dispatch station.
* Performs quarterly division vehicle safety inspections
* Operates two-way radios and scanners.
* Operates personal computer using spreadsheet, database or word processing software, and other standard office equipment including a copier and calculator.
* Operates vehicles and associated equipment to diagnose basic maintenance problems.
* Performs first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures as required.
* Communicates clear direction, manages for results and leads organizational change.
* Assigns responsibility, provides coaching via Lytx Fleet Tracking, takes corrective action, demonstrates leadership in evaluating, developing and motivating employees.
* Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies.
* Performs related work as required.
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of the methods, standards, regulations and procedures governing transportation systems.
* Knowledge of the City’s Fleet Tracking System (Lytx) to perform event analysis
* Knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to vehicle and equipment assignment, inspections and inventory and maintenance record keeping.
* Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques.
* Knowledge of Drive Cam program.
* Knowledge of basic two-way radio dispatching procedures.
* Skill in coordinating, inspecting and expediting the day-to-day repair, servicing and testing of vehicles and equipment with vendors or applicable City Agencies.
* Skill in compiling, preparing and maintaining records and reports via RECTRAC and CIRTS System
* Skill in directing multiple vehicles on several routes, in order to meet customer expectations.
* Ability to operate a multi-passenger vehicle.
* Ability to provide physical assistance to senior citizens.
