Position Summary
Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants for the position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This role involves delivering vehicles to Penske locations and customers, moving box trucks up to 26’, and, for CDL Class A holders, moving tractors and trailers. The position may also provide assistance to the service department with parts and equipment deliveries.
This is a casual/on‑call part‑time truck driving job ideal for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers seeking supplemental income. Working hours range from 0 to 25 hours per week based on business needs. Shift: Monday‑Friday, 5:00 am – 2:00 pm. Jobs are located at 214 Hermitage Avenue, Nashville, TN 37210. The role reports to the Nashville, TN location.
Major Responsibilities
- Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; report any issues to the location manager.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of driving experience.
- Minimum 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record.
- Valid Class B CDL required. CDL Class A license preferred.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions.
- Ability to work independently, with strong customer service, organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
- English language proficiency per 49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2).
- Regular, predictable, full attendance required.
- Must maintain a current driver qualification file including an annual MVR check, DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records for the last 3 years.
- Will be subject to a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
- Willingness to travel as necessary and to work at the specific location required.
- Must complete background investigation and drug screening.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to see and hear; required vision includes close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Must frequently move, stand, walk, and sit, and use hands to touch, handle, and feel.
- Must regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg); occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs (45 kg).
- Must legally operate and frequently enter/exit a motor vehicle, including the rear cargo area.
